Nikkei Kigyo Fundraiser

The Japanese Community Association of Hawaii is planning our very first Fundraising Event, honoring the Nikkei Kigyo (enterprise of Japanese Ancestry) in East Hawaii, specifically, those who have been in business for many generations.

For our inaugural event, we are honoring and recognizing two outstanding Nikkei Kigyo companies: I. Kitagawa & Company, Ltd. and Suisan Co., Ltd., established in 1905 and 1907 respectively!

Both companies were affected by the 1946 and 1960 tsunamis but because of their “gambare” spirit, hard work, and perseverance they are both still very viable and vibrant businesses in Hilo. I. Kitagawa is now headed by fourth generation, Brian Kitagawa while Suisan is now headed by second generation Rex Matsuno.

The event will be held on: Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Nani Mau Gardens

5:00 pm - No host cocktails; 6:00 pm – Dinner and program to follow.

This Fundraiser will benefit our scholarship program in which we plan to award to deserving students in East Hawaii whose major/minor will be Japanese studies.

Please help us celebrate this special inaugural event at a special member rate of $50 per person. Or, if you and your friends would like to purchase a table of 8, the amount is $400 (reservations and payment should be made on one form). Non-member rate Is $75 per person and sponsorship rates are $750-$1500. Seating is limited. Attached is a reservation form.

Hope to see you on the 18th of January to help celebrate these two outstanding businesses for their contribution to our community and beyond! Should you have any questions, please feel free to call 969-6437.
